My name is Rachel L Miller – and I write Amish fiction and contemporary Christian romance.
People say to write what you know… well, I can’t – and won’t do that.
A reformed reader of the type of books that make a person blush just looking at the cover, I know a lot more than I am willing to put between the pages of any book… even a diary.
Readers of Amish fiction are looking not for racy stories, but for romances in which the trinity of modesty, chastity and fidelity reign. While the books often feature a female protagonist that falls in love with a man outside of her community, the relationship always remains sweetly romantic. – Wall Street Journal article on why Amish romance novels are so hot.
It’s partially my mother’s fault. Way back when I was clearing the shelves of all the books I kinda wish now I had never even picked up, she insisted that I read A Simple Amish Christmas by Vannetta Chapman and thus began the obsession.
So… In early 2013, my mother introduced me to Amish fiction and it was love at first read!
After that I could not get my hands on enough books and mom gets a bit put out with me at times because I have completely run out of places to put them all… at least four times now. And… ironically enough, though I am completely obsessed with Amish fiction and though my name sounds Amish, and we dress very plain… live very plain… we are not Amish. But I am intrigued by the culture, in love with the wonderful people and it is a genre I approve of so Mom suggested that I try my hand at writing it.
Since then, I have written two different Amish fiction series [parts of three different stories during NaNoWriMo sessions] and I am very excited about them both.
Book ONE of the first series: A Mother For Leah is set for release later this year!
