More from Kensington about Return to Huckleberry Hill:

When it comes to matchmaking, Huckleberry Hill, Wisconsin’s unstoppable octogenarians Anna and Felty Helmuth never seem to run out of opportunities—or grandchildren…

Reuben Helmuth is plenty bitter. John King, his best friend—or so he thought—is engaged to the girl Reuben loved. Humiliated, Reuben flees from Ohio to his grandparents’ home on Huckleberry Hill, where he knows he’ll find comfort. He’s enjoying wallowing in his misery—until John’s sister, Fern, shows up. She won’t stop pestering Reuben about forgiveness—or trying to help him find love again. Yet Fern’s efforts only reawaken Reuben’s long-buried feelings—for her…

With her brother too ashamed to face Reuben, it’s fallen to Fern to help mend fences. But as she and the Helmuths do all they can—even organizing a knitting club event filled with eligible girls—it may take one more challenge to inspire Reuben to forget his heartache, recognize his own blunders, and embrace the true love that’s right in front of him…

There’s nothing Huckleberry Hill, Wisconsin’s irrepressible eighty-somethings Anna and Felty Helmuth like better than a challenge. And the chance to matchmake their feisty granddaughter is their most delightful task yet…

Elsie Helmuth’s plain-spoken ways got her in trouble once before, so she needs to make a good impression at her new teaching job in Huckleberry Hill. But she’s not about to let disabled student Wally Sensenig work below his potential. And she definitely won’t put up with his hot-headed older brother sabotaging her efforts, no matter how handsome he is. . .

Sam is nearly at the end of his rope caring for his ailing, widowed mother, working their farm, and raising his siblings. He’ll admit Elsie’s ideas are bringing Wally out of his angry shell—but why does she have to be as stubborn as she is pretty? Yet as it turns out, Elsie has taught Sam something about himself as well. And he’ll do whatever it takes to make up for his mistakes—and win her heart forever.

BOOK REVIEW | SPOTLIGHT ON Sweet As Honey by Jennifer Beckstrand

I know this is book two in the series, but it is (yes, it still is…even after reading all of the others in this wonderful series) my absolute favorite of them all!

First, the designer in me has to mention just how much I LOVE this cover. I also LOVE that the publisher was so smart to keep the theme for all three covers, linking them effortlessly in readers’ minds. Genius!

And like my mother, if I have to choose between a new Jennifer Beckstrand story and sleep — I choose the book — every time!

This story starts off with a bang (almost literally) and it just gets better and better! No surprise there!

Of course, you have to feel for sweet Lily! And, this is one of those times I wanted to jump into the book and tell her what she can’t see because it’s right in front of her, but alas… I cannot.

And then there’s the *ahem* “schoolyard bully” who made fun of Lily—who you have to know, did that because he liked her…

Don’t look at me like that. You know I’m right.

Not the least bit surprised to say that this is another WONDERFUL story by Jennifer Beckstrand, with the comedic writing and colorful characters I love so much from her, a book that will have readers rushing to find book two… and then three!

And yes, I stayed up half the night to finish it. OF COURSE!

More from Kensington about Sweet As Honey:

“Sweet as Honey is a warm, wonderful book filled with delightful characters, humor and tenderness. Jennifer Beckstrand writes lovely stories, sure to touch your heart.”–RaeAnne Thayne, New York Times bestselling author

Smart, kind, and good-hearted, the three Christner girls are affectionately known as The Honeybee Sisters in the beloved Wisconsin Amish community where, under the care of their aunt, they’ve grown into skilled beekeepers–and lovely, sought-after young women. . .

Though she has blossomed into a beauty, Lily Christner doesn’t really believe it. Deep down, she still feels like a lonely, gawky teenager. Maybe that’s why she’s all but promised herself to Paul Glick, the one boy who never teased her in her awkward girlhood–unlike Dan Kanagy, whose creative name-calling left her in tears many a time.

Now he’s back in town after two years away–and being surprisingly sweet, suspiciously attentive–and making Lily unsettlingly yet deliciously nervous. It seems Dan wants Lily’s forgiveness–and her heart. But can he convince her–not to mention her protective schwesters and aendi–that despite the past, her future lies with him?…

BOOK REVIEW | SPOTLIGHT ON Huckleberry Summer by Jennifer Beckstrand

I know this is book two in the series, but it is (yes, it still is…even after reading all of the others in this wonderful series) my absolute favorite of them all!

Huckleberry Summer by Jennifer Beckstrand

And, OH MY WORD, I’m not going to be able to do proper justice with this review. It is most certainly going to pale in comparison with Jennifer Beckstrand’s amazing talent.

If you loved Huckleberry Hill, do not miss Huckleberry Summer! Because the second book in this delightful new series is JUST AS ENJOYABLE as the first!

I REALLY hope Kensington realizes what a GEM they have found in Jennifer Beckstrand!

Every book she writes is fresh and original.

Each story is wonderfully different and each character is original and individual – which is exactly how it should be! Even in a community where everyone believes, behaves and dresses similar, they are all individuals and Jennifer obviously gets that!

It’s familiar, as it should be with a series, but nothing is the “same old thing” or a repeat of something you’ve read before. And our beloved matchmakers – well, Jennifer just keeps revealing new depths to them with each book that will keep readers guessing for a long time.

It’s a good thing Amish families are so big – Anna and Felty have plenty of grandchildren left for Jennifer to write about!

Or that’s my hope anyway. I know I personally would love to read about each and every grandchild’s perfect match!

Jennifer Beckstrand has lovingly crafted another beautiful story of life, love and laughter. What a gem!

With each book, we get to meet new wonderful characters, while characters we already know and love make appearances and remind us of why we fell in love with them to begin with.

And along with that comes a terrific story that is beautifully in tune with the theme of the series, without feeling like a rerun. And yet somehow Jennifer still finds fun ways to make us laugh and enjoy the crazy adventure our two feisty grandparents have in store for the two young people they’ve set their sights on.

And I think that’s my favorite thing about her writing – just how REAL the stories and the characters are. A lot of people seem to think that a story has to be filled with tragedy and sadness to ring true but Jennifer clearly doesn’t believe that and I am forever grateful for it.

Don’t misunderstand what I’m saying… Jennifer’s books are filled with strong and intense emotions! And as the reader, it’s impossible not to experience them right along with the characters. We see everything from heartbreak to laugh-out-loud silly-ness. And in this book, Lily is described as cautious. What she is, is scared and timid.

And Jennifer describes the emotions so well, you can almost feel Lily’s worries freezing you in place right along with her.

And along with that emotion comes the added bonus of how well Jennifer weaves ordinary events into the storyline. Most authors only add in things they feel add to the story so we don’t often read about the normal everyday things people do. But Jennifer understands that it’s seeing into a character’s routine that truly gives us insight into who that person is.

Jennifer Beckstrand is the kind of writer who ruthlessly drags you into the story, where you follow along with the characters emotions – no matter what they might be. But you won’t mind because the path they travel is so full of enjoyable adventures and misadventures. You won’t want to miss a single one!

More from Kensington about Huckleberry Summer:

With one of their grandchildren happily married, Anna and Felty Helmuth are ready for their next matchmaking success. Because there’s nothing more rewarding than sparking unexpected love–and putting Huckleberry Hill, Wisconsin, on the map for romance. . .

Cautious to a fault, Lily Eicher strives to live up to her dat’s high standards. She’s certainly not the kind of proper Amish girl who would make time for someone as impetuous as the Helmuths’ grandson, Aden–even if his lively spirit and caring ways are showing her just how wonderful following her heart can be. . .

Recklessly doing the right thing got Aden into big trouble. A fresh start at his grandparents’ is just what he needs. And shy, pretty Lily is turning his world upside down and making him want to prove he can do good within the rules. But now both must find enough faith and understanding to risk pursuing their dreams–together. . .

What CHRISTmas means to me…

Over the years I have discovered that Christmas is one of those things that means something a little different to everyone – even people who celebrate for essentially the same reason.

Obviously I cannot list all of those reasons because… well… 7.3 billion + people… But I’m going to list some of the general reasons. I have a point – I promise.

To some, Christmas is a very serious season – meant to be revered, solemn, quiet, still… Some of these people may decorate a tree, where others want nothing to do with trees because they feel so commercial.

To some, Christmas is all about the fun – meant for sleigh riding, snowball fights, ripping into wrapping paper and hanging out with friends. You’ll find that most of these people decorate a tree, bake tons of cookies, shop endlessly and watch every Christmas special they can. I did say most though… there are always exceptions.

To some, Christmas is just about family – baking together, making one of a kind gifts, doing a secret Santa drawing so you can really personalize and pour all your energy into that one perfect gift, and of course… traveling to visit family.

But where do I fall? What does Christmas mean to me?

Well, I am – like so many others – one of a kind.

I cherish CHRISTmas because of what the holiday originally stood for – the birth of our Lord and Savior; JESUS CHRIST! And there is reverence in holding this dear.

I value my family during this time – because without JESUS’ sacrifice and Saving Grace, would any of us be here now?

And of course, I focus on having fun with my family – because I believe it is what JESUS would want me to do this time of year… in reality… every time of year. JESUS blessed me with my two children – two little miracles all my own – and I intend to do everything I can to show them how rare and precious they are; not just to me but to their Heavenly Father as well.

We will watch Christmas specials that focus on all these things; A Charlie Brown Christmas, The Nativity Story, Christmas comes to Canaan, etc… because the most important thing about Christmas isn’t the tree… or the presents… or the food… or the movies you watch… or even the people you watch with… it’s remembering WHY all of that is important – because JESUS gave his LIFE to save us and HE deserves ALL THE PRAISE for blessing us this season and every other!
