Here’s what to do:

“A Mother For Leah” Q & A – Who is Leah Fisher?

So who is Leah Fisher?

She is the main character in “A Mother for Leah”, my first Amish fiction novel (It’s not yet published but I’m still editing and praying).

Leah has lost her mother (mamm) and she wants another. It’s been a long time and her dad (dat) should be ready to move on, right?

Leah is the oldest of the Fisher girls (maedels) still living at home. She’s only 15 but she is starting to notice boys and her older sisters (schweschders) have all married and begun their own lives so there’s no one to guide her through the rough path that a young girl (maedel) must traverse to begin courting.

So here are a few random facts about Leah and her immediate family.

How old is Leah?

15 years old

What is Leah’s favorite food?

Pumpkin Pancakes

What is Leah’s favorite Color?

What is Leah’s favorite Bible verse?

Psalm 146:1-3  KJV

1 Praise ye the Lord. Praise the Lord, O my soul. 2 While I live will I praise the Lord: I will sing praises unto my God while I have any being. 3 Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help.

What is Leah’s secret wish?

She wants a new mother. (But her reasons are a bit selfish and she is afraid it’s sinful for her to desire a new mother)

Does Leah have a boyfriend?

Not yet… That is one of the reasons she wishes deeply for a new mother. She doesn’t know what to do about her feelings about a certain boy she has met.

What is one thing about Leah we really need to know?

When she gets what she thought she wanted, she is not exactly thrilled.

Tell us a bit more about the rest of the Fisher children…

There are 11. Here is a pretty basic run-down of them.
Anna – 22, married with 2 children, bossy, determined, very settled into her life as a wife and mother
David – 21, engaged, building a house for himself and his intended, quiet, shy, a peacemaker
Benjamin – 20, very single, restless, a bit wild
Miriam – 20, Benjamin’s twin, already married with 1 child, very quiet and reserved
Ruth – 19, newly married, lively, a bit of a gossip, always happy and smiling
Elam – 17, a hard-worker like their father, already prepared to join the church, studies the bible more than anyone else in the family, nicknamed “Preach”
Caleb – 16, troublemaker, feels his mother’s loss as strongly as Leah, has a head for math
Leah – 15, loner, rarely smiles, determined to be the best “Amish girl” she can be, spends entirely too much time working and not nearly enough time doing what young girls do
Peter – 12, very studious, small for his age, loves animals
Matthew – 10, live wire, detests school, into everything, but has a really big heart
Lillian – 6, everyone’s little sweetheart, has them all wrapped around her little finger

Check back for more Q & A soon!
