Girls Who Write: Rachel L Miller on Encouragement

My next step in this very exciting venture.

As I mention in the video below, a large part of my inspiration for this subject is the recent experience of my dear friend Naomi Miller.

Her third book released last week to many excited fans and readers!

In celebration, our publisher put the second and third books on SALE in kindle and eBook format and her first book FREE! During that process, she received some new reviews and one of them was a bit difficult to stomach.

For myself, I don’t understand it. I LOVE Naomi’s books. Each one is a wonderful experience and reading them leaves me feeling full of warm fuzzies.

But hey… to each their own I guess…

Anyway, I would like to take this opportunity to remind readers that reviews (yes, even the 1-stars ones) are VERY important to authors. Every one gets our book(s) closer to best-seller status, closer to being featured by the ‘zon, closer to traveling in circles with much more well-known authors, and of course… they make it possible for our books to reach readers who would not normally find our work – which is the most important thing of all!

So, read books. Write reviews. Help an author. Help another reader!

GOD BLESS!

Girls Who Write: Meet Rachel L Miller

I am thrilled to be part of this new and very exciting venture.

And I look forward to sharing with readers. . . and authors in upcoming videos.

Please be patient with me though. I’m very new to videos and they’re far from perfect.

GOD BLESS!

A view of Miley Cyrus’ latest behavior that may not be very popular.

Philippians 4 8

I have been sitting on this opinion for days but it feels more and more important that people who have a valid point, should make theirs known.

Disclaimer: I will not be posting any pictures of Miley’s recent performance so if you came here looking for that, you’ll probably be going now.

I read a blog post this morning that condoned and applauded Miley Cyrus for her recent behavior and I feel compelled to respond. Before anyone goes off half-cocked, the author of said blog post has already conceded that the behavior was questionable. She was merely condoning Miley’s right, as a woman, to do such a thing.

I would like to address this point first.

It is my belief that many people in this world today have lost the meaning behind the different roles of men and women in the world, in society and in life. One of the problems is, I’m certain, the devil himself. He is the father of lies and the master of confusion. And the more he can confuse people in general, the easier his work becomes. However one of the problems is most definitely the different translations of the bible. I realize that the Olde English is not easy for everyone. In fact, it’s not always easy for me. However, the Authorized King James Translation was taken upon very seriously. And it took years… yes years for them to translate the original languages into one. This was not because of a lack in technology or resources but due to the fact that every single verse was painstakingly studied by multiple translators. They wanted to make sure they got it RIGHT.

Example:

Proverbs 31:26-31 ESV:
She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: “Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.” Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. …

Proverbs 31: 26-31 KJV:
26 She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. 27 She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. 28 Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. 29 Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.30 Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised. 31 Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.

I could spend all day on every nuance that has been missed here. But I won’t. If you look, REALLY look, you can see what has been missed and what has been incorrectly translated.

So back to the point at hand.

Why do I consider Miley Cyrus’ behavior completely inappropriate, lewd, disgusting and an affront to all things good and decent in this world?

I do not care one single solitary bit that she is a young woman doing these things. I would be JUST AS disgusted by a man behaving this way. But our society has been exposed to these sorts of things so much, we can’t even see it for what it really is: one more step toward desensitization to true evil.

Yes, the Smith family was shocked. Yes, millions of people have commented negatively. But think of this. Does Twitter care? Does Google care? Does Facebook care? Does MTV care?

No!

They care about likes, page views, tweets, ratings. They care about how many people watched it live, watched it later on YouTube, how many people are talking about it, tweeting about it, texting about it, liking pages talking about it. Facebook, Google, Twitter and MTV are doing a happy dance right now because this subject is on everybody’s pages and unfortunately in their mouths and minds.

Eventually, all anyone will remember about it is how controversial it was.

I miss the days when Miley skipping out on an event in New York City (Hannah Montana: The Movie) was the biggest concern on anybody’s mind. I miss the days when it was shocking to see Miley in all black with a frown perpetually on her face (The Last Song). I miss the days when she sang a duet with John Travolta (Bolt) and that was the biggest, most exciting thing she’d ever done!

I miss the days when young people got to be young people. The days when we didn’t encourage our children to grow up so fast AND to do it in front of the world via social media. I’m still working on this with my two young children. We do not have cable. We do not have Internet (except on our phones and we have ABSOLUTE control over those AT ALL TIMES). We feel it is more important to give the children time to play, time to read, time to BE children!

Parental controls may be fine for some people but more and more things are becoming “PG” or “PG-13″ that I do NOT want my young children seeing… EVER if I can help it. And this latest experience is another one of them. It aired LIVE on MTV, a channel that almost every cable carrier supplies as part of a basic package. How many young children saw this that night? Can they ever get those images out of their head? Will they ever be able to think of Miley Cyrus again without going back to that event in their mind?

Colossians 3 2

No. And neither will I unfortunately. And not because I watched it on TV or even on YouTube but because I clicked on a link for an article speaking against her behavior. I didn’t for one second think there would be a picture… I was wrong.
